Celebrate!

A VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR BIRTHDAY

we celebrated our daughter's first birthday party a few weeks ago by hosting a Very Hungry Caterpillar party. I have always loved this book for both it's storyline and illustrations.

although most of the guests were adults, i  still wanted the party to be bright, colorful and whimsical. having spent many years as an early childhood educator, i had collected various hungry caterpillar books and props throughout my career that i knew i could incorporate into the tablescapes to create depth and dimension.

as the party was in April i felt that "green and red" seemed a little too dark for a color scheme. as a lover of polka dots, i was inspired by the border running across the title page of the book, and used this to help bring in more color, add depth and visual interest to the party decor.

i love adding personalized details to all my parties big or small. my husband and i had a candy bar at our wedding, and seeing the caterpillar does indulge in some sweet treats throughout the story, i thought this would be a fun way to bridge that big milestone with our daughter's first big milestone. we created signature (adult) cocktails and along with making all the decorations, i made custom placemats that guests could color while at the tables.
